Specializations are the filterable tags that visitors use to narrow down catalog results. Choosing the right ones directly affects how often you appear when someone filters for what you offer.
How visitors use specializations
When a visitor opens the listing page, they see a set of filter buttons — one per specialization. Clicking “Sports injuries” shows only listings that have that specialization selected. If you haven’t selected it, you won’t appear in that filtered view.
This is different from keyword search. Keyword search looks through your bio and name. Specialization filters are exact matches — you either appear or you don’t.
Which ones to choose
Select every specialization that genuinely applies to your work. Don’t self-edit too aggressively.
If you’re a physiotherapist who treats sports injuries but also does general musculoskeletal cases — select both. A visitor filtering for “sports injuries” needs to find you. A visitor filtering for “musculoskeletal” also needs to find you.
Don’t select specializations just to appear in more results if you don’t actually work in that area. Visitors who contact you based on a misleading tag will be disappointed, and that erodes the catalog’s reputation.
How many is right?
There’s no hard limit, but 3–6 is a natural range for most professionals. Fewer than 2 suggests an unusually narrow practice. More than 8 can look like you do everything — which sometimes reads as expertise in nothing.
What if the right specialization isn’t listed?
The catalog admin defines the specialization list. If there’s a specialization that would accurately describe your work but isn’t available, contact the admin and ask them to add it.
Specializations aren’t just about search filters — they also appear as visible tags on your profile page. Visitors see them when reading your profile and use them to quickly understand what you do.
Updating specializations
You can change your selected specializations at any time from the profile edit form. Changes take effect immediately on your public profile.
